Students will come into our open kitchen and perform all of the steps for making a magnificent pizza, but obviously, the best part is enjoying the masterpiece that they have created! We find that our Plum Tomato field trips are a valuable learning experience for students who may be interested in working in the food service industry as well as a fun and educational way to reward good students.
Field trips are held at our Colchester location only.
When do field trips take place?
Make your Own Pizza Field Trips are hosted on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings at 10:00am. They last approximately 1.5 hours.
What is the minimum age to participate?
All children should be five years of age or older.
How much does the field trip cost and what is included?
The cost of the field trip is $18.00 plus tax. A 25% gratuity will be added. This price includes 2-3 field trip hosts, dining room/kitchen rental from 10-11 (from 11-12 the dining room is open to our customers), a personal pizza (cheese | pepperoni), fountain beverages with refills, and all utensils needed for dining as well as pizza boxes to go.
How many children are allowed to attend?
We encourage a minimum of 10 and maximum of 16 participants to make their own pizza.
How does the field trip work?
Guests arrive and gather at the table.
A field trip host will begin by introducing themselves to the participants, telling them about how we make pizza at Plum Tomato, and mentioning some important rules to follow. Drinks are presented to the participants at this time (at the chaperone’s discretion).
Next, all of the participants are led to our hand sink, where they wash their hands. Our field trip host is there to assist them as well as take down their names and drink orders.
Participants then enter the kitchen where they are given a dough ball. They are instructed to pound the dough using a “finger-tip and drum” method. They then are taught how to stretch and toss their dough. After their dough is the appropriate size, they move to the next station where they will put their toppings on the pizza. Our staff will closely monitor the amount of sauce and cheese the participants put on their pizza. The pizza is then cooked in our brick oven which usually takes anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes. Participants are allowed to watch their pizza cook. When the pizza is done, our staff will cut the pizza and escort the participant back to the table with their pizza and drink.
When the everyone is done eating, our staff will provide boxes for leftovers if needed.
*** For safety reasons, we ask that all participants are at least five years of age. Participants should wear closed-toed, flat shoes. Those with long hair should wear it tied back. Please – no costumes or clothing that might interfere with the safety of their experience.
